City of Jamestown Mayor, Sam Teresi, gave the commencement address. He first thanked the college and students for allowing him to take part in such a historic event for the college. He then congratulated all the graduates, but also gave them some advice as they head toward their futures. He said: “First, spend your life in the service of others...Next, in that service, do big things that will outlive your time here on earth. Lastly, don’t focus on what you accomplish, but on what you inspire others to accomplish.” JBC instructor, Sam Qadri, represented the faculty in congratulating the graduates on their success and commitment. He said: “Today’s graduation is that ‘light at the end of the tunnel.’ I believe that earning your degree or certificate is a tangible measure and a satisfying result that comes after a real dedication and effort. It is further evidence to you, your family, and friends that YOU have what it takes to succeed.” Rosanne Johanson, Dean of Student Affairs, and Gretchen Lindell, Associate Academic Dean, presented awards to those graduates who achieved the highest grade point average in Associate Degree programs. Graduates receiving awards were: Jared Strickland (Russell, PA), Janell John (Sinclairville, NY), Suzannah Dubois (Westfield, NY), Jordan Campese (Silver Creek, NY), and Audra Nutt (Brocton, NY) A reception was held in the church parlor immediately following the ceremony.
